Scaled Model of Shangtuo’s Containerized Seawater Desalination Unit
Recently, the world's first large-scale containerized seawater desalination system with a daily capacity of 20,000 tons — contracted by Shougang International EPS with Shangtuo Environment participating as a processing manufacturer — officially began producing water at 1:18 a.m. local time on July 17 in Peru, through the joint efforts of the owner, the general contractor, the subcontractors and the construction party. After four days and nights of continuous work, the system now runs through the entire process and is in operation. This marks a new era for large containerized seawater desalination projects: the new-format containerized equipment greatly shortens on-site civil construction and installation time, truly realizing the design concept of free assembly and rapid water production.
Shangtuo Environment's requirement: Facing an as-yet-unconfirmed overseas order, Shangtuo Environment needed to build a large containerized seawater purification unit to meet the water demand of a foreign company's new iron ore beneficiation plant, so as to solve the problem of excessively high alkali metal and chloride ion content in the concentrate caused by the original seawater ore-washing method.
Scaled models made by traditional manufacturing are either insufficiently detailed, or too time-consuming and hard to modify. Shandi Technology produced scaled models for export in the early stage, which could both test the internal structure of the unit and serve as a product demonstration during Shangtuo Environment's bidding, showing users how quickly the containerized seawater purification unit can be deployed and moved.
Overseas project construction is often delayed for various reasons, and even a domestic project of the same scale requires a six-month construction cycle. Shandi used scaled 3D-printed models to help avoid risks; in the formal construction phase, a process container plus E-house substation model shortened the construction cycle to three months, greatly reducing the project timeline and civil construction costs.
Shougang International, together with partners such as Shangtuo Environment, rose to the challenge. After many rounds of round-the-clock effort, by 5 p.m. on July 13 the water, gas and piping at the construction site were basically ready for commissioning; over four days and nights the entire process was brought online, and the moment the system officially produced water, everyone on site was overjoyed.
