Injection Molding

Samdi Labs' injection molding service is designed for volume production of 10,000+ parts. Unlike the small-batch production of rapid prototyping, injection molding is generally used for large-volume plastic parts or bridge tooling. We also offer LSR (liquid silicone rubber molding), a mass-production process for non-toxic, heat-resistant, highly resilient flexible thermoset transparent silicone, suitable for production runs of 25-5000+ parts.

By using advanced aluminum alloy molds, we minimize the huge time costs and expensive custom fees. Samdi Labs also supports splitting molds for workpieces of different sizes and complexity, and we will continue to introduce new injection molding processes to help enterprises with R&D and manufacturing needs produce better products.

CAD Model Design Elements

Dimensions

The maximum outer contour dimensions of the mold are length and width 480x752mm

Maximum part depth is 25.4mm

The mold parting line (draft angle) has 3 different angles; the parting line must pass through the middle, inner and outer parts of the mold, and deeper parts will have a smaller outer contour.

Draft Angle

To ensure the die casting can be released smoothly from the mold, all inner surfaces along the release direction must have a certain slope, called the draft angle, so that the part is not damaged during ejection.

Recommended draft angles:Set to 0.5 degrees, Usually, as mold cavity depth increases, the draft angle should increase by 1 degree accordingly; sometimes it increases by 2 degrees.

· 3 degrees is the minimum parting surface angle (metal cross-section).
· 3 degrees is the minimum requirement for a light texture (PM-T1).
· 5 degrees or more is the minimum requirement for a deep texture (PM-T2).

Machining Tolerance

Typical machining tolerance can reach +/-0.08 mm; additionally, depending on mold design and the injection material chosen, a further tolerance of +/-0.05 to +/-0.5 mm must be added.

Material

SAMDI LABS offers hundreds of different thermoplastic resins for different industries and application areas, and especially provides different material options for LSR. Below are some of the more commonly used materials:
· ABS, nylon, TPU
· POM, PBT, PEEK
· Acrylic, PC, PEI
· HDPE, PP, liquid silicone rubber (LSR)
· LDPE, TPE

Wall Thickness

For injection-molded parts, an appropriate (uniform) wall thickness must be set to prevent sinking or warping. The recommended wall thickness varies by material (1 mm-4 mm).

Surface Finishing

Standard post-processing techniques can all be applied to injection-molded parts. We currently use non-polishing, processing or light-polishing treatment, surface pearl treatment and SPI-A2 mold polishing. Depending on factors such as design and quantity, the LSR result varies slightly.
